About
Wordsmith. Grammar nerd. Language maven. All labels that mean I care an awful lot about the serial comma, the difference between “discreet” and “discrete,” and whether a key concept is explained in chapter 2 or chapter 5.
I’m Erin, and I’m an editor with more than fifteen years of experience in book publishing.
After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in English, I found positions that let me put my degree to work in a variety of ways:
developing college textbooks on literature and composition
writing press releases, user manuals, presentations, and other marketing and technical material at a small SaaS company
creating how-to projects and catalog copy for an e-commerce company
In 2009, I began working on my own as a freelance editor, and since then I’ve edited books in a wide range of genres, including history, sociology, memoir, health and fitness, and religion.
I received formal copyediting training through NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and I’m a member of the American Copy Editors Society and the Northwest Editors Guild.
I love thinking about language and word choice. I love looking at how a text builds its case, the logic of its organization and structure. Maybe most of all, I love working with writers and helping them shape a text into something that truly expresses what they want to say.
